Description

The Assistant Controller will support the Controller in managing the financial operations of the Credit Union. This role involves overseeing accounting functions, assisting in the preparation of financial statements, and ensuring compliance with financial regulations and US GAAP. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

SCHEDULE

Full Time

To be effective, an individual must be able to perform each job duty successfully.

  • Assist in the preparation and analysis of financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory and US GAAP requirements.
  • Oversee daily accounting operations, including loans and deposit accounting, accounts payable, current expected credit losses (CECL), and general ledger maintenance.
  • Support the period-end close processes, including reconciliations and journal entries.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with internal controls and accounting policies.
  • Assist in the preparation of budgets and forecasts, providing insights and recommendations for financial planning.
  • Coordinate with external auditors and NCUA regulators during audits and examinations.
  • Prepare and submit regulatory reports in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with other departments to support financial decision-making and strategic planning.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices in financial operations.
  • Provide training and support to accounting staff as needed.
  • Assists with leading technical and non-technical accounting teams to ensure high quality, timely outcomes on highly visible initiatives with high risk and complexity touching all teams and leaders
  • As needed, researches, develops, implements and/or approves new policies and/or procedures to ensure compliance with US GAAP.
  • Monitors and researches new accounting standards as they evolve prior to issuance, drafting technical position papers for the Credit Union.
  • Independently researches and interprets regulatory rules, guidance, and instructions
  • Maintain accounting procedures and ensure policies are updated and well documented.
  • Maintains active CPA license, including sufficient continuing professional education and needed
  • Knowledge in US GAAP for financial institutions.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES

Experience

  • 8 years of progressively responsible experience in accounting or finance, preferably in the banking or credit union industry.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to manage and lead a team of accounting professionals.

Education

  • Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.


Licenses, Certificates, Registrations

  • Current CPA license required.

Computer/Office Equipment Skills

  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with Workday preferred but not required.

Language Skills

  • Demonstrated ability to clearly express ideas, methodologies, results and recommendations verbally, in writing and through insightful reports and graphic illustrations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of employees, members, or business partners.
